Understanding Body Fat Percentage

Body fat percentage is a more accurate indicator of fitness than BMI. It measures the proportion of fat to total body weight.

How to Measure

  • Neck: Measure at narrowest point, below Adam's apple
  • Waist: Measure at navel level (men) or narrowest point (women)
  • Hip (women only): Measure at widest part of buttocks

Body Fat Categories

Men: Essential (<6%), Athletes (6-13%), Fitness (14-17%), Average (18-24%), Obese (25%+)

Women: Essential (<14%), Athletes (14-20%), Fitness (21-24%), Average (25-31%), Obese (32%+)
